Ross Buckingham heads for Nurburgring (May 10, 2001)
Press Release… Press Release… Press Release… Press Release…
Australian Mini Miglia Racer Ross Buckingham will take part in his first 24-hour race in this month’s classic Nurburgring event. He will share a Caterham 7 for the grueling event, which takes place on the daunting Nordschliefe circuit in the Eifel Forest in Germany.
Ross is currently working on a graduation to the British GT Championship but has been keen to do the Nurburgring event for a long time. Ross said "This is one of the world’s classic races and I just had to jump at this opportunity, we will be aiming to be there up to finish and hopefully stay out of trouble. We will just have to pace ourselves, be kind to the car and be patient. That is a far cry from the mayhem of Mini Racing but I am really looking forward to it."
Ross has also attracted the attention of Australian racing legend John Goss who will be assisting Ross in his planned move up to GT. Goss, twice a winner at Bathurst is a household name in his home country but is probably best known in Europe for his classic Bathurst win in 1985 with Tom Walkinshaw driving a Jaguar XJ-S. "This is just fantastic," said Ross "John is one of the drivers who inspired me to become a racing driver when I was very young. He raced F5000 and a Falcon touring car, which I remember he always drove on the limit. As a young kid it was just awe inspiring."
