British GT Debut for Ross Buckingham (September 03, 2001)

Racing Driver Ross Buckingham in British GT Debut.
Weybridge based Australian Ross Buckingham had a troubled debut in the British GT championship this weekend at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire. Ross was driving the Eclipse Motorsport Marcos Mantis for the event. The first drama for the week was the team’s truck breaking down on the way to the track for Thursdays pre-race testing. Having never driven the car before and not being able to test the car prior to the event meant that the first drive in the car would be to qualify on the day before the race, a daunting prospect on the UK’s fastest race track. An electrical fault during qualifying provided further drama and meant starting the race having only completed eight laps in the car!
For the race it was simply a case of putting pre race drama aside and getting on with it. Ross made up several places early on in the race and things were looking good until gear selection problems hit eventually causing retirement from the race. "It was certainly a frustrating weekend" said Ross " but that is the way it goes sometimes, there were some positive aspects of the race for me, I just have to use that to good effect in the next race."
Ross will contest in the final two rounds of the championship at Brands Hatch on 16th September and Silverstone on 29th September.
